Dentures

For people who are missing some or all of their teeth and are looking for a replacement – either a full or partial set, then dentures are for them. Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth and come in two different forms depending on what the patient is looking for: complete or partial.

If a patient has all their teeth missing, then complete is for them. If some teeth still remain, then partial is the way to go. At Premier Hollywood Dental Clinic, our dental team will advise you on what the best solution and course of action for your needs and wants are that also fits your budget. We pride ourselves in offering the best dentures Hollywood residents can get.

The 2 Types of Dentures

For complete dentures, they are further broken up into either:

Conventional – this is made AFTER the teeth have been removed and the gum tissue is already starting to heal. Ready to be put into the mouth 8-12 weeks after removal of the teeth.

Immediate – as the name suggests, immediate means that the dentures were made in advance and can be inserted as soon as the teeth are removed. The benefit of these are that when the patient is going through the recovery phase, they will still have teeth, which is different from conventional dentures. However, one disadvantage exists with these: bones and gums shrink over time during the healing period, thus needing lots of adjustments and are usually just a temporary solution until conventional ones can be made and inserted.

For partial dentures, what happens is they fill in the space that arises due to the missing teeth so that other teeth cannot move around and change position. A precision partial denture can be removed and has internal attachments that “attach” to adjacent crowns, making it seem more natural-looking.

How Do I Know If I Need Dentures?

If you are missing any teeth in your mouth, then you should consider this procedure so as to prevent any future complications or infections down the road.

There are other alternatives though, for example, you could also have dental implants done instead since they can support permanently cemented bridges. Implants do cost more but implants and bridges are more identical looking to real teeth and also resemble the same type of feel. Although implants are becoming increasingly popular, not everyone is suited for them. Our dental team will let you know what we think is best for you moving forward.

Yes, dental implants can be used to support permanently cemented bridges, eliminating the need for a denture. The cost is usually greater, but the implants and bridges more closely resemble the feel of real teeth. Dental implants are becoming the alternative to dentures but not everyone is a candidate for implants. Consult your dentist for advice.
